Number to watch: 59 percent

Percentage of respondents in a J.D. Power survey released last week who said they are more likely to buy from a certain car company if their in-home voice service is also available in the vehicle. The survey was sponsored by Amazon, one of the voice-service vendors that would benefit from such a market preference, with its Alexa virtual assistant system. Voice-activated services are becoming increasingly popular as the quality improves, overcoming years of consumer dissatisfaction. J.D. Power reported last year that voice recognition was the top source of complaints expressed by new-vehicle owners.
