As survivors and dignitaries prepare to assemble at Auschwitz-Birkenau to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp, historians are working to preserve personal belongings of the victims to keep the 'memory of their owners alive.' The number of survivors is shrinking each year, resulting in fewer personal testimonials. Which is why the physical evidence becomes increasingly important.
